Diamond Hill is located in Connemara National Park and offers some of the most rewarding views in the area — from rugged mountains to sweeping views over the Atlantic, Kylemore Abbey, and endless layers of wild Irish landscape.
What I love most about this location is how accessible yet dramatic it feels. You don’t need to be an experienced hiker to enjoy it, but you still get that epic, adventurous feel that makes your photos look and feel stunning!

The Diamond Hill hiking loops – what to expect
There are two loop options on Diamond Hill, which makes it very flexible for photography sessions:
- Lower loop - easy to moderate, gentler and great if you want a relaxed walk
- Upper loop - steeper, more challenging, and offering much more impressive views
I usually suggest taking the upper loop, as the scenery becomes more dramatic the higher you go. The steepest and most challenging section is closer to the summit, but it’s absolutely not necessary to reach the very top if you’re not feeling it.
There is already so much beauty along the way — open views, quiet corners, and stunning backdrops perfect for intimate moments. That said, on a clear day, the summit is 100% worth it. The views from the top are breathtaking and feel incredibly rewarding.
How long does a Diamond Hill photo session take?
The full upper loop takes around 2 hours to complete. When we add photography into the mix, it can take longer — because we stop, wander, take breaks, and follow the light.
If we don’t complete the full loop and instead hike far enough to get amazing views and photos, I still recommend allowing around 2–2.5 hours. Photography always takes extra time, and I never want you to feel rushed. These sessions are meant to feel calm, intentional, and enjoyable.
What I love most about photographing couples here
The best part of this session was how naturally it all flowed. The weather kept changing, soft light breaking through the clouds, and the openness of the landscape gave plenty of space for genuine, in-between moments.
Diamond Hill allows couples to forget about the camera and just focus on each other and the stunning surroundings.
